An abandoned suitcase in the ladies’ room of a German airport triggers a terrorist alarm. A wide area around the restroom is cordoned off, and the airport has been evacuated. Left behind are Bettie, Mia, and Lore, who are stuck in their bathroom stalls. Total strangers until now, the impending catastrophe has made them friends for life, however short this may be now. But the big bang does not happen, the security forces give the all clear, “everything smells of spring, and birth, and birds are singing, and a golden glimmer is on everything”. Life’s crises, depression, loneliness – none of that matters, next to the feeling of having cheated death. This feeling is too big for the three women alone; this feeling needs to be shared with the world. And suddenly they have an idea: this calls for an attack simulator, ”we don’t even have to build anything … we just go to some places, we pretend to be terrorists, make people feel something”. The concept works better than anticipated. The three women attack dance halls and supermarkets. The government slowly gets wind of this, but instead of stopping them, it buys their idea. The three women expand their enterprise, the country’s mood improves, the birth rate goes up, and so does the economy. Carelessness ensues - too much carelessness for those whose businesses depend on a sense of duty, on fear, and on worries. Seriousness must be restored in Germany, and they already have a plan …
