Alissa Walser (born in 1961 in Friedrichshafen) studied Fine Art in New York and Vienna. She received the Ingeborg Bachmann Award and the Bettina von Armin Award for her story Geschenkt in 1992. Her first book Dies ist nicht meine ganze Geschichte was published by Rowohlt in 1994. Her stories have been published in English in literary magazines such as Open City and Grand Street. Alissa Walser writes prose and theatre plays and has translated works by Sylvia Plath into German (Diaries) as well as plays by Joyce Carol Oates, Edward Albee, Marsha Norman and Christopher Hampton among others. In 2009 she was awarded the Paul-Scheerbart-Preis for her translations of Sylvia Plath's poems.
