Thomas Birkmeir

Thomas Birkmeir is a German director, actor and playwright. After studying pedagogy, psychology and philosophy in Munich, he studied stage direction at the renowned Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. He then worked as actor and assistant director at the Vienna Burgtheater, was director-in-chief at the Schlosspark Theater Berlin and worked as stage director at various German and Austrian theatres. He was a guest lecturer at the Vienna Conservatory as well as the Max Reinhardt Seminar. Thomas Birkmeir’s plays have been performed many times in the German speaking countries as well as in translation. Since 2002 Thomas Birkmeir has held the position of artistic director at the Theater der Jugend in Vienna, the world’s largest theatre house for young audiences (both children and adolescents).
