Lily Groth leads a double life. On one hand, she is the wife of a radically liberal professor of economics, who just spent a year as guest lecturer at the university of Canberra, on the other she is a newspaper vendor in the commuter railway and - maybe imaginary - lover of rock musician Jaques Le Coeur. All the while she does not see her secondary existence as betrayal. " I wasn't the same woman for the one as for the other... I apportioned one me into two loves, equal in size, in importance, and equally indispensable.» A stray arrow from her husband's bow hits Lily in the back, leads to the confrontation of the two men and destroys the fragile balance. The play juggles the "the changes and reflexions of a 'reality of imaginations' and 'imaginations of reality'. Strauss corresponds the unification of two existences in order to balance one person with the difficulty of German social and political unification, his doubly unified Lilly haunts the city, which was until recently divided, and is already split up once again.» (Theater Heute)
