Hans-Peter Grothe, an upright and rather boring man, suddenly finds himself at the head of a large corporation, which had become a billion-dollar venture in the matter of only a few weeks. It seems like yesterday when he was an employee of a logistics company, devoting himself to his special task: crisscrossing Europe, on the trail of a mysterious container. Frequently crossing paths with the top model Lynn Preston (who ranks higher on Google than porn!) is only one of the peculiarities that he encounters in the course of his research. Grothe is threatened, and he appears to become a threat himself, as more and more people show interest in the object in question: competing companies, the Catholic Church, even Switzerland, and inevitably the public. Grothe starts his own company and has his container search listed on the stock exchange, with the support from Lynn, who is addicted to pills and completely nuts, but otherwise quite charming. But now the big moment has come: Grothe must reveal the container’s content.

In this third part of his Trilogy of Disappearance, after Die Tauben (The Doves) and Falscher Hase, Gieselmann sends us on a hilariously absurd chase trough a globalized business world, which is driven by the inscrutable mechanisms of irrational profit expectations and excessive media hype. The container turns into a modern-day Golden Calf, and the search for that metal box becomes the ultimate goal.
