This is authorial duo Nolte Decar’s laconically witty depiction of how an increasingly automated and allegedly “clean” war creeps into everyday life. The play begins with a journey around the world in a series of short scenes. In the South Seas, a female police officer is investigating the blowing up of a yacht and gets a few puzzling answers from a Maori. In Colombia, two teenagers flirt awkwardly on a bus; unfortunately, the passenger sitting a few seats away is a drug cartel boss. Meanwhile in Alaska, absolutely nothing is happening. At least, that’s the opinion of two teenage girls, who don’t care much for conspiracy theories about the CIA. Slowly, the sense of a latent threat becomes palpable. When a scene set in India mentions the political activities of a Bollywood star, the audience can be certain that this episode will also end with a big bang. The second act leads us back to the comfortable and predictable world of the British salon comedy. The venerable country home of Lady Grimshaw is the scene of a sudden confrontation – over sherry and trifle – between a personification of global political trade and the representatives of genteel middle-class society.

World premiere
