«Live fast, die Young», people used to say. But excess, rapture and intoxication have been consigned to the dustbin of history. Formerly shaken by crises, wars and confrontations sparked by «that rabble-rouser Aristoteles» (and later followed by more «conflict-centric dramas by dead men»), the world today is governed by a calm, detached sense of harmonious balance. No one is more symbolic for this change than German footballer Philipp Lahm. In Michel Decar’s play, the audience eavesdrops on his conversations with journalists, joins him in celebrating his greatest victories and joins him for lunch at a department store. And it’s all very restrained and sensible. Decar’s «Philipp Lahm» character is a cipher for ourselves in this phantasmagoria about everyday life. Philipp Lahm, meanwhile, rigorously yet playfully grapples with the old dramas that faded away long ago. And it explores the feeling of bliss to be discovered in uneventful routines - and the abyss that may lie behind them.

World premiere
