Alice and Edgar have been living in their own marriage hell for 25 years, in quarantine on a godforsaken island. They are caught in merciless static warfare that binds them every more tightly to each other the more they try to get away from each other. It is only with the sudden appearance of Kurt, who initially brought them together, that they seem to reach a turning point and get closer to a separation. But then Alice and Edgar are revealed to be some kind of virus, infecting everything in its vicinity with its toxic weariness of life.

August Strindberg’s Dance of Death, written in 1900, is considered to be the blueprint for the marriage drama. John von Düffel’s new adaptation transports this to our present time, without frills but with much care and consideration.
