Sam and Maria emigrated illegally from Romania to the USA. For seven months now, they have been waiting unsuccessfully for their American dream to come true. Maria pays the rent working in a peep show. Back home, she had slept with guards and soldiers to get Sam out of prison. But Sam never showed any gratitude, he wants to leave her, but yet does hardly dare to leave the house. Again, he feels caught in a dungeon, outside of which there now lies a strange world. Maria and he become more and more estranged, even from themselves. The depressing limitedness provokes a brutal fight. Suddenly there is a knock on the door – the new neighbours, Myrtle and Mike, two youthful desperados. They cordially invite Sam and Maria for a beer. At this point, Sam and Maria have no idea that the two might be wanted for murder.
