The jewish lawyer Daniel and his wife, Emma, are being visited by two friendly couples, Matthias and Judit, and Josef and Sofia. All have very successful careers, but a deep confusion has taken root within their contentment, which is amplified by the presence of Jonas, Daniel's mentally confused brother. Cracks appear in their claims of normality. Ever more powerful, the past looms over the attempts to talk about the present. In an interplay of deadlock and dynamism, paralysis and escalation, Norén shows us human beings who have cemented their fears and contradictions. They know well that something should be done – against the persistent anti-semitism and fascism, against the wars in Kosovo or Ruanda, against their own ignorance and inaction. But what would change look like in the face of overextension? How should one act, behave in a world which has become so complex that it almost eludes one's grasp?
