As a child in Afghanistan, Aaron suffered under the Taliban’s violent dictatorship. Later, in Germany, he opens up to Jesus’ message of forgiveness. Sarah, on the other hand, experiences her Protestant parental home as cold and distant, and discovers comfort and security in Islam. Ida, a rational Christian, starts searching ever «Deeper» into her faith and ends up converting to Judaism. After his wife survives cancer, Marc, an engineer, arranges for himself to be baptized into the Catholic church.

«An important play … Tuğsal Moğul discusses something fundamentally human that is increasingly becoming the focus of attention in our secularised, multi-cultural society: religion as a source of support and structure.» (Westfalische Nachrichten)

«When the media talk about converts, they mostly mean bearded young men who have become jihadis. Moğulcounters that unsettling idea with four life stories based on real biographies. Neither Aaron, Ida, Marc nor Sarah want to act as missionaries. All they are doing is offering a life story presented in their own way, a story which only became complete after they found a new faith. In the context of today’s heated social climate, Moğul's project develops enormous political import. German Converts is a full-on plea for mutual tolerance.» (Nachtkritik)

World premiere
