Jule’s and Jakob’s relationship is stuck in a deep rut. While 28-year old Jule restlessly is jetting around the globe to attend workshops for Intercultural Training, Jacob (31) does nothing but sit in front of his computer. When they had first met, some time ago, they spiced up their intimacy with erotic role-play; but now, not even a re-enactment of their first real-life encounter turns them on anymore. Afraid of losing Jakob, Jule claims to be diagnosed with a brain tumor, and to have only one or two months left to fulfill her biggest dream: one night with the Indian movie star Shah Rukh Khan. Jakob responds by taking her to the most fantastic of all dream machines: Bollywood. That he, of all people, should be the one who copes with the chaotic world outside their hotel in Mumbay much better than the seasoned traveler Jule will not be the last punch-line in this series of events …

India for Beginners follows the path of two people in search for meaning, who, driven by their desire for big, authentic feelings, are bound for a harsh return to reality.
