Balkonszenen

Cast may vary

It’s a warm June night. Inside the house, a sweeping ball is well underway. Now and again, the guests flee to the balcony to gasp for air and escape from the duties of society life. Small talk, gossip about those absent and romantic whisperings segue seamlessly and are superimposed on one another. Old friendships break up, new ones start and unexpected, sometimes bizarre meetings take place. Balkonszenen is a pattern of impressionistic, nocturnal conversations, battle-tales of everyday survival, a circle dance of elegant people who believe that for a moment they are not being watched. Masks fall or are exchanged for others and tensions relax before those involved brace themselves anew for their next foray into public life.
