Yoko Tawada, born in Tokyo in 1960, studied Russian literature in Japan. Since 1982 she has been living in Germany, where she studied German literature with Sigrid Weigel in Hamburg. Yoko Tawada writes essays, prose, theatre plays, audio plays and poetry in German and Japanese. She has received multiple awards.
