Ernst Jandl

Ernst Jandl (born in 1925, died in 2000 in Vienna) studied German and English language and literature at the University of Vienna, did his doctoral thesis in 1950 and worked as a grammar school teacher in Vienna until 1979. His breakthrough as experimental poet came with the collection of poems Laut und Luise (1966). Ernst Jandl received a series of prizes and awards including the most prestigious Hörspielpreis der Kriegsblinden (1968 together with Frederike Mayröcker), the Georg Trakl Award for Poetry (1974) the Mülheim Dramatists' Award (1980), the Georg Büchner Award (1984), the Heinrich von Kleist Award (1993) and the Friedrich Hölderlin Award (1995).
