David Gieselmann’s play sends an archetypal family (father, mother, daughter, son) on a journey of transcendental discovery. The son, in particular, is plagued by a feeling that he’s lost and lacks fulfilment. The gentle, passive approach of his parents isn’t much of a help in his search for a focussed and target-orientated new Weltanschauung. Initially, his sister refuses to take his problems seriously. Then he discovers an online community that preaches a crude mix of digital abstinence and familial unity. When one of the group plants himself into the family home, he provokes an array of reactions from the family’s members. The daughter discovers a spirit of resistance and revolutionary energy, while the son complies fully with the new philosophy, opening up a career pathway in the patriarchal hierarchy. But it is the family’s children who put an end to this nightmare just before the situation threatens to spiral completely out of control.
World premiere
