Ghosts are haunting us. In Theodor Fontane’s novel Effi Briest, a single undead Chinese man is haunting Effi in her husband’s house. But one hundred years later, entire regions have mutated into ghost towns. A group of urban planners is trying to combat the consequences of this post-economy, which caused an industrial blight in the East as well as in the West, and they want to create living spaces from the ruins. At the same time, David Lynch scouts locations for his film adaptation of Fontane’s novel which enmeshes the breaking up of a couple and the collapse of an entire world in a constantly tightening net …
