Odyssey
(Odyssee)
Translated by Gregor Schreiner
2F / 5M
After committing atrocities during the Trojan War, Odysseus and his companions begin to make their way home. Yet they lose both their way and their memories, suffering from symptoms uncannily like a post-traumatic stress disorder. The men slowly find their way back into normal life, continually confronted with new challenges on their meandering travels, haunted by ghosts from their past.
Featuring timelessly clear, straightforward and rhythmically musical language, John von Düffel compresses Homer’s Odyssey into a nightmare of remembering in which the war’s victors are also its victims.
World premiere
11.05.2018 Landestheater Detmold (Director: Jasper Brandis)
