Siegfrieds Heldentaten
7F / 11M / smaller cast possible
Never before have the protagonists of the greatest German epic poem been stripped of their status as role models like this. Driven by the hunger for power and recognition, they kill, they fuck, and they gorge themselves toward their own downfall. Siegfried, the guiding light, is a dumb, but highly virile beefcake; his counterpart Brunhild is a bloodthirsty barbarian. The Burgundians at the royal court in Worms may not possess as much raw animal power, but they passionately eavesdrop, gossip, and scheme – woe to those who trust anyone here. Free from all the patina, this updated version of the "Siegfried" saga displays a society shaped by ruthlessness and brutality, where peasants are only good to serve as dragon fodder, where everyone wants to be king, but nobody wants to govern, and where loyalty only matters if it redounds to one’s own advantage.
World premiere
19.03.2015 Münchner Volkstheater (Director: Christian Stückl) unter dem Titel SIEGFRIED
