Biochemist Regula Simon has built an android, a “human” born in a Petri dish featuring a quantum computer as an in-vitro brain, paid for by EU funds she has expertly and fraudulently appropriated. Replete with the knowledge of an average 21-year-old, the trans-human being called “Spin” is a viable organism that looks and speaks like a human, uses its interface to access all the information in the world in nanoseconds and is free of human ‘baggage’ like emotions and hunger. Regula’s creation is a scientific sensation and the media flock around her and Spin. Shady manufacturers of artificial meat are interested in Spin’s texture while chemical companies are eager to put Spin into mass production. Even the art world believes it has found the ultimate work of art. While Regula seems to have Spin’s existence under control from a scientific point of view, in real life her influence over her creation is dwindling. Things deteriorate when Lutz, her father and Spin’s grandfather, shows up. Lutz, it seems, has nothing better to do than put crazy ideas into his granddaughter’s head about freedom and independence...
