Lisa Danulat was born in 1983 in Frankfurt/M. She studied philosophy in Frankfurt, acting in Freiburg and playwriting in Graz (Austria). Between 2021 and 2024, Danulat completed training as an operating theatre assistant.
In 2008 Too low terrain was elected "Best Play" at Mainzer Autorentage. Lisa Danulat held a scholarship from the Autorenlabor (Writers' Lab) at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus for the season 2009/2010 and was awarded the Vienna Scholarship for Playwrights in 2010. She was writer in residence at Staatstheater Mainz in the season 2010/11 and received a residency grant for Villa Decius, Krakow in 2011. In 2012 she received the North Rhine-Westphalia Dramatists Award for her play Uns kriegt ihr nicht. Das Haus der Jeanne Calment. Lisa Danulat was Artist in Residence in Vechta in 2014 and in Paderborn in 2018. She was awarded the Kathrin-Türks-Preis in 2018. Her play Entschuldigung was selected for Berliner Autorentheatertage 2019. In 2025 she was awarded a scholarship by Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung.
