Morgen in Katar
4F / 7M / smaller cast possible
The train has been on it's way for a while, when it comes to a sudden stop just before reaching Karlsruhe. Someone threw himself in front of the train. And inside the train the travelers who had been testy from the start, are waiting: The conductor comes by but knows nothing, the waitress sells champagne and Schnapps. As the level of alcohol rises, the discussions become more and more presumptuous.
Theresa Walsers' cast of characters, joined by destiny in this train compartment and getting drunk and drunker, is as diverse as could be: Edith, for example, is slightly sentimental and makes wild mental leaps. The architect has a toothache and dreams of the perfect building, that she, as she senses herself, will never build. The blonde woman likes to chatter and dreams of the desert. And Mr. Wuentrop has "signed off" from Germany and wants to build a Louvre in Qatar. Because "that's where the world of tomorrow meets".
In Morgen in Katar, Walser has created a comedy where time seems to stand still. Here, in this no man's land, the travelers confront each other with their plans and fears, with airy-fairy reflections and theories about life; and they create an absurd, yet funny melody of conversation. Has the train stopped just outside Karlsruhe or is it actually Qatar? One thing at least quickly becomes obvious: One would love to watch these characters a lot longer during their unscheduled stopover.
