A meeting between two Nobel Prize winners whose fraternization is clearly marked by elite consciousness, nationalism and chauvinism, until they themselves fall victim to the Nazis. Jandl intends his play, spoken in a manner lacking all conjugations, to be “a sort of Endgame.” It releases the audience from the theatre into “the non-theatre of their world, where they are supposed to carefully rediscover their own speech.”
